Unlike most of the mining towns in Calaveras County, Copperopolis’ claim to fame is not gold, but copper, and was a thriving 1800s copper mining town. Today Copperopolis Town Square is all new, pedestrian-friendly, and a blend of specialty boutique shops, great restaurants, and residential lofts.

You’ll enjoy festivals and events that occur throughout the year, many featuring horse-drawn carriage rides around the square and art and craft vendors. The Copperopolis Wine Festival includes a bus historic tour of the old town, and free concerts in the park throughout the summer are a huge hit. Popular Market at The Square farmer's markets always includes live music and kids' activities. In addition, Town Hall Arts / Galerie Copper, an art center of the foothills, provides multiple fun and educational art classes year-round, art supplies, and custom framing.
